Programs Offered

Licensed by the State of New Jersey, Haytown Nursery School offers programs for children ranging in ages from 2 1⁄2 years old to 5 years old.

Younger Child Program

Age Group: Children 3 years old by October 1st
Program Days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Morning Session: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (optional lunch until 12:30 pm)

Program Overview: The younger program revolves around week long units that consist of colors, nursery rhymes, seasons, shapes, numbers, holidays, etc. Age appropriate academics are introduced.  The children complete projects one-on-one or two-on-one with the teachers so that the teachers can help each child in specific academic, cognitive or fine motor areas that they need. Our younger children’s day is balanced between free play and structured instructional play.

Older Child Program – Two Options

Option 1: Four Day Program (mornings only)

Age Group: Children 4 years old by October 1st
Program Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Time: 9:00 am to 12:30 pm (children to bring lunch every day)

Option 2: Three Day Program (afternoons only)

Age Group: Children 4 years old by October 1st
Program Days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Time: 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Program Overview: Children work independently, in small groups and in a class setting.  This structure helps children learn to follow a series of instructions as well as to work independently within a classroom setting. The older program focuses on age appropriate themes, academics, music and arts and crafts. Their day is spent within free and structured play.

Terrific Two’s and Three’s Class

Age Group: Children 2 1⁄2 to 3 years old by October 1st
Program Days: Mondays (starting in January)
Time: 9:00 am to 11:30 am

Program Overview: Children in this age group are moving from parallel and independent play to interactive play, beginning to separate from their parents.  We provide a caring, safe environment to gently guide children through this transition.  This program emphasizes socialization and play – age appropriate academics, creative arts and crafts, music, and story time.

Teacher to Children Ratios

We take pride in our small classes and excellent student-teacher ratio.  Haytown Nursery School operates its classes below the teacher to student ratio allowed by the state.

Curriculum

"I marvel at not how much Paul has not only learned, but how much he has enjoyed learning and how much confidence he has gained." – Dr. Laura Senator

Our curriculum is developed by our teachers.  They work and interact with the children on a daily basis. This daily interaction, along with their broad range of teaching experience makes them better positioned to design an appropriate curriculum for children in a particular class. The specialized and unique curriculum matches the needs of a broad variety of individual children - different in age, in developmental level and maturity.

The content of our curriculum is broken down into age appropriate “units”.  Examples of some of the units implemented are:

  • Manners
  • Outer space
  • Hibernation
  • Feelings
  • Castles
  • Seasons
  • Holidays
  • Dinosaurs
  • Animals

Within these “units” children will learn their letters and numbers, the basics for math and science concepts, emerging reading skills, social studies, art and music.  Our units are often supported through the use of books from our school’s library.

During free play children move through centers that feature:

  • arts and crafts (ie., crayons, paper, scissors, glue)
  • small manipulatives (ie., LEGOS©, puzzles, BRIO©, star links)
  • large blocks (ie., dinosaurs, farm animals, trucks and trains)
  • books from their age appropriate library

During a more structured part of their day children will learn together with their classmates in:

  • circle time
  • calendar activities
  • show and tell
  • arts and crafts
  • music (singing and rhythm instruments)

The daily structure and curriculum is designed to help children make two critical transitions in their young life:

  1. the home to pre-school transition
  2. the pre-school to kindergarten transition and preparedness
