The Haytown Speaker Series is a lineup of relevant expert seminars that focus on hot topics in parenting today. The series is open to all members of the community and was designed to educate, inspire and provoke thoughtful discussion on topics and challenges parents face.

Specifically, we will review why positive discipline is more effective than punishment and how it can help you set limits to effectively manage your child’s behavior at home. Parents will walk away with many strategies and positive discipline tools to add to their parenting tool kit.

Kristen Niemczyk-Kistner has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and both a master’s and a Ph.D. in social work. Kristen is also a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, certified school social worker, and a licensed social worker. Kristen has acquired over ten years of professional experience as a child study team school social worker in three New Jersey school districts.

For the past ten years Melissa Dupree has worked as a school psychologist in both New York and New Jersey.  As a school psychologist Melissa has a strong understanding of the importance a child’s emotional and behavioral well-being has on their ability to achieve success and flourish socially and academically. www.success-street.org

Tara is a Certified Health Counselor and health conscientious, loving mother of three. She decided to become a health counselor to fulfill her passion of working with families to improve their health and family life. Tara received her training at Integrative Nutrition in New York City. She is certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and has obtained Continuing Education Units from Purchase College, State University of New York. Tara leads workshops on nutrition and offers individual health and nutrition coaching to parents and families.

Naila is a Certified Holistic Health Counselor. She also has had training in Herbology and Green Medicine, and has worked in the health field for several years; specializing in assisting individuals with digestive disorders. Naila Arain also has an educational background and experience in the fields of Psychology and Education. She holds a Masters Degree in School Counseling from Hofstra University, and a Bachelors in Psychology from The George Washington University. At her health food store, Back to Nature in Chester she works as a Health consultant. She focuses on helping customers find ways to relieve their stress, since she realizes from personal experience how it negatively affects our body and our digestive system. She also has a passion for hair care and skin care products, and researches the cleanest ingredients and highest quality products to offer customers. Early childhood development can be broken down into four distinct categories: gross motor, fine motor, speech and social development. During the discussion, Dr. Ganek will review normal chronologic development in each of these categories, as well as how parents can help their children reach key developmental milestones. Become more effective in nurturing and navigating your child through their growth so they can prosper.

Speaker: Ellen Ganek, MD 

Dr. Ganek has been a board certified pediatrician since 2002. She has established a unique pediatric practice offering house calls to best serve local families in the comfort of their own home. Dr. Ganek received a liberal arts degree in cultural anthropology from The University of Michigan followed by an M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She completed her pediatric residency training at Arizona Health Sciences Center of The University of Arizona where she devoted special attention to Preventative Medicine and Native American health and culture. Throughout her career Dr. Ganek has focused on preventative care and maintenance of health, emphasizing the paramount importance of nutrition and exercise. She has previously developed and directed a successful multidisciplinary weight management program for children.  

As a pediatrician and mother of three young boys, Dr. Ganek has a special interest in parenting. The power of effective parenting in contributing to the future success of children motivates her to continuously examine this subject.
